Often, fat is stored on the body in places it is not welcomed. Fortunately, with liposuction and fat transfers, this can be changed. A Brazilian butt lift, the most popular type of fat transfer, involves removing excess fat from one part of the body and transplanting it to the butt and hips.  Dr. Brad Gandolfi is a double board-certified plastic surgeon in New York City who regularly helps patients get the figure they desire via butt lift procedures.

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

While there have long been options for achieving fuller buttocks via implants, the Brazilian butt lift represents a more advanced approach, allowing you to get the curvy buttocks you desire without getting any type of implant.

A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a multiple-step surgery in which fat is removed from the abdomen, sides, and back, then transferred to the hips and butt. The combination of removal around the waist/mid section and addition to the butt and hips can create curves for all types of people.

How Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Work?

During the Brazilian butt lift, Dr. Gandolfi will carefully remove fat from your core- the abdomen, flanks, and buttock. This is done using small (5mm) incisions and liposuction. Using this power assisted liposuction, the extracted fat is purified and then injected into specific points in the buttocks, strategically chosen to offer a beautiful, natural-looking result.

Am I a Good Candidate for the Brazilian Butt Lift?

You may be a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift procedure if:

  • You are in good health overall
  • You have sufficient unwanted fat that can be harvested and transferred
  • You are at or near your target body weight
  • You do not have excess skin
  • You do not smoke
  • You do not have high blood pressure
  • You have realistic expectations about what a Brazilian butt lift can achieve

Our Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure Process Explained

Where Will the Fat for My Butt Lift Come From?

Dr. Gandolfi will harvest surplus fat from somewhere on your body, typically the abdomen, flanks, and back.

What Will My Surgery Day Look Like?

Your journey will begin at our surgery center, where you will receive a warm welcome from our surgical care team. They will guide you to your operating suite and administer anesthesia to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure.

Once you are fully asleep, Dr. Gandolfi will extract the fat from the specified area, then purify it. This technique will involve an incision site carefully chosen to minimize any long-term scarring.

Following the preparation of the fat, Dr. Gandolfi will carefully inject it into the buttocks. Fat is always injected in strategic areas to shape the buttocks for a natural-looking outcome.

You will be discharged immediately after surgery and will go home with instructions for recovery and aftercare, as well as Dr. Gandolfi’s personal number.

What is the Recovery Like?

Recovery from a BBL is more complicated than many other surgeries and requires motivation to obtain the ideal results. We recommend a series of massages and fajas to help our patients reach their goals. Additionally, pressure must be kept off of the areas of fat transfer for a minimum of 3 weeks. Techniques and details are discussed with each patient before and after the surgery.

Other Things to Consider Before Getting a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Are There Any Risks Involved?

Perhaps more than any other surgery, the techniques employed make a significant difference in the safety of the procedure. In inexperienced hands, a Brazilian butt lift is a dangerous surgery. Dr. Gandolfi applies 8 years of lab work, research, reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic surgery to ensure he performs this procedure as SAFELY and effectively as possible. He is a member of both the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). These societies have created a framework for safe surgery that every surgeon should follow. Even if you choose to go with a different plastic surgeon, we highly encourage you to choose someone that is also a member of these societies.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The final results of your Brazilian butt lift may last for a decade or more, especially if you carefully adhere to post-op guidelines and maintenance instructions. Making healthy lifestyle choices can also enhance and prolong your results.

Is it Really Worth It?

A Brazilian butt lift can help you accentuate your body with subtle or profound curves. While only you can decide whether this procedure is worth it, most of our patients are highly satisfied with their enhanced results.
